Excuses, Excuses

I'm starting the 90 Day Bible Challenge, aptly named, as it consists of challenging oneself to read the entire Bible in 90 days.  My reason?  Today I recieved in the mail Ruth Beechick's The Three R's and Tim Kimmel's Grace-Based Parenting.  Of course, I'm already reading Sally Clarkson's Ministry of Motherhood, and there's an upcoming women's study with some girls from church utilizing Lysa TerKuerst's Made to Crave.  Not to mention, there's the epic adventure in reading samples, reviews and descriptions of curriculum for homeschooling, even though my oldest is not quite three.

Do you know what I haven't been reading (with the exception of the kid's daily Bible story and a Psalm at breakfast)?  Or what I haven't even read all the way through? Yeah, the most important book there is.  The B-I-B-L-E.  So... this summer, that's the book for me!  I am using the schedule posted here, in the info section.  Tomorrow will be my Day 1, but I just got a jump-start and read the first four chapters of Genesis.

I'm going to try to post when something sticks out to me, and today, what stuck out was from Genesis 3.

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

See what Adam did there?  He blamed God and then Eve. He made excuses for why he chose to sin, for why he chose not to do what he knew was best and God-honoring.  Then Eve turns around and blames the serpent for her not doing what was best and God-honoring.  They knew what was expected of them, they knew the best path, but they chose to sin.

I know the best path for me right now, too, and I am going to choose to do what is REALLY best for me and my family, and that is to put all of the other books aside and read the BEST book.  So my challenge to me is that I may also not read any other books, blogs or catalogs, or watch any Netflix unless I have completed my "assigned" reading for the day, and am caught up from previous days.  Let the challenge begin!
